Culturally Responsive Social and Emotional Learning

The child’s experience is the focus.
The adults’ awareness is the work.

You notice that a child shows up differently in different rooms. That what gets labeled a problem at school feels like something else entirely at home. The tools you have been given do not quite account for the child actually in front of you.

That gap has a name. And there is a framework for it.

Social emotional learning has always happened inside families, cultures, communities, and faith spaces.

Cultural SEL builds from that history and expands it. It draws from global research that the standard frameworks leave out, and it accounts for the children that those frameworks were not built around.

The child who moves between two languages is skilled. The child who behaves differently at home than at school is adapting. The child who openly carries their culture lives with pride within their identity. This work helps adults read that accurately and respond from a more informed place.

Who this is for

Cultural SEL lives wherever children are. Whoever is reading will find themselves in it.

Parents
You are raising children across cultures, languages, and environments. You want a framework that actually reflects their experience.

Educators
You want to do right by every student. You keep running into moments your training did not prepare you for. There is a framework for that.

Facilitators, homeschool families, and faith leaders
You work with children every day in spaces that were never given a SEL framework. That does not mean the work is less real. There are tools here built for where you actually are.

At Cultural SEL, the focus is on how children are understood across different settings.
This page shows how social and emotional learning connects with culture, identity, and context.
